Hosea 4:6 says — “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
But look around carefully. People are not being destroyed. They are being distracted.
Distracted by notifications. By opinions. By comparison. By the pressure to have instant results in a world that rewards speed over depth.
The problem is not intelligence. Most people are smart enough. The problem is not effort. Most people are working hard enough.
The real problem is this — when a person does not know their purpose anything and everything becomes a distraction. Because there is no clear direction to return to.
The Distraction Trap
The modern world is designed to keep you distracted. Every notification, every trend, every overnight success story is quietly telling you the same message — you should already be there. You should already have results.
So people jump. From one idea to another. From one teacher to another. Always busy. Never settled. Always searching. Never finding.
Running Someone Else’s Race
There is another distraction that is harder to see because it looks like ambition — running someone else’s race.
A cousin starts a business. A sibling gets a promotion. And suddenly without realizing it you are chasing their path. Not because it is yours. But because it looked like success.
Every person is built differently. Every person carries a specific purpose that belongs only to them. Copying another person’s path wastes the most important years of a life meant to go in a completely different direction.
Scripture is clear — God told Jeremiah “I know the plans I have for YOU.” Not your neighbour. Not your cousin. For you specifically.
The Way Back
The way back requires one thing most people avoid.
Stillness.
Not a technique. Just honest quiet time asking the questions you have been too busy to ask — who am I really and what was I made for?
Those answers already exist. Your job is simply to be still enough to find them.
